Caption: This 5.5-mile overland conveyor is part of Jim Walter Resources’ expansion of Mine No. 7. The conveyor, which will carry coal from the No. 7 expansion, snakes over the hills of central Alabama on its way to be washed and processed at Mine No. 5’s preparation plant. Walter Industries invested $73 million in capital in 2007 on the expansion, which will increase metallurgical coal production capacity by 50 percent in 2009.
